Spring Lake Invasive Species Management

Protecting our parks, ponds, and dunes through careful, environmentally responsible control.

Marucci Park

We are working to control Japanese Knotweed along the west and north edges of Marucci Park and the Polypod Brook corridor. Most of this work will take place in the public works area along the railroad tracks, but we will also be in the woods behind the baseball fields on the north edge of the park.

For any applications near the public, we will be performing stem injections or low-pressure foliar applications.

Wreck Pond

We will be controlling phragmites along the shoreline of Wreck Pond, as well as working to keep invasive vines off the bulkheads along the Spring Lake side of the pond.

Spring Lake (lake)

There are a few pockets of poison ivy and other invasive species surrounding the lake. We will be spot treating these where we find them. We will also be controlling water lilies

Lake Como

There are small pockets of various invasive species we will be targeting on the Spring Lake shoreline of Lake Como.

Dunes (Brown Ave – Tuttle Ave)

The dunes between Brown Ave and Tuttle Ave have some invasive species mixed in with desirable vegetation. We will target invasives such as Japanese Knotweed and Phragmites, and police for Poison Ivy where the public may come into contact with it.
